How to test fiber optic patch cord?
1. Computer connection tester test method
1.1 Turn on the return loss and insertion loss tester of fiber optic patch cord, and the heat is stable for about half an hour.
1.2 Open the computer test program: double-click the "Optical Insertion Loss Return Loss Automatic Test System" icon on the desktop → enter the tester's name and job number, click the "OK" button → select the "My Computer" test data folder, select the line Don't → After opening, create a new folder (named "product to be tested", such as: "single-mode single-core fiber jumper", etc.), and click the "OK" button.
1.3 Computer calibration: After connecting the standard jumper to the return loss and insertion loss tester, click the "Reset" button in the menu bar, and then check the wavelength corresponding to the different types of products, and then click the "Settings" dialog box to check Information such as "number of cores, modes, and judgment criteria" → OK
1.4 Click on the "IL test" button, wipe the ferrule end face of the jumper to be tested with alcohol, and then connect the standard jumper (after microscopic inspection of the end face "OK" and proofreading whether the jumper is standard) with the tested line and standard The adapter is connected according to the schematic diagram; pay attention to the strength between the hands while connecting. Do not use too much force, otherwise the quality of the end face will be affected. During the test, first click the "Manually modify the number" button and enter the number of the product to be tested (usually starting from "0001"). After testing a tail/patch or splitter data, the number needs to be modified once.
1.5 Click the "RL detection" button, and the system will automatically display the RL value of the tested jumper (within the required range). UPC type needs to wrap around 5 turns with a round rod with a diameter of about φ7, while APC type does not.
1.6 Press the enter key on the keyboard, the computer will display the corresponding data of the tested line and save it. (Note: In the case of standby, the standard jumper plug should be inserted into the optical power meter.)
1.7 Change the direction of the jumper to be tested and test the indicator at the other end.
1.8 If the test data does not meet the requirements, you need to wipe the end face repeatedly with absolute ethanol before connecting it to the tester. At this time, you should click the "retest now" button or press the space bar on the keyboard. Note: You cannot press the Enter key, otherwise the "Judgment" column in the "Database" information column of the test dialog box will display unqualified.
2. Test method without computer connection tester
2.1 Press the "LINE" key to turn on the instrument, and it will be thermally stable for about half an hour. Press the "λSel" key to switch the wavelength to be tested.
2.2 Connect the FC/APC end of the test fiber optic patch cord (usually a single-mode single-core FC/APC jumper fiber, 3 meters) to the instrument's OUT put, and connect the other end to the extension line through a standard adapter, and then connect the extension line Enter the OPM Input of the instrument, press the [dB(rel)] key for about 2 seconds and then release it, the instrument displays "ΔP=-0.00dB" and the extension cable insertion loss is about to be cleared; press the [Chan] key, Select the display'CHB' channel (CHA channel black frame), press the [Rlcal] key for about 2 seconds and then release it, the "RL" value of the "CHA" channel is displayed as 14.7 or 14.8 dB, and the return loss of the extension cable will be cleared.
2.3 Insertion loss test
2.3.1 Unplug the connector of the access end of the instrument and connect it to the tested patch cord through a matching adapter;
2.3.2 Connect the other end of the tested optic jumper to the instrument access port (OPM Input);
2.3.3 The "ΔP" value of the CHB' channel on the display of the instrument is the insertion loss under test (within the required range);
2.3.4 If the test data does not meet the requirements, the end face of the tested patch cord ferrule and dust-free paper shall be dipped in absolute ethanol to repeatedly clean or clean the end face of the extension cord ferrule or the inner wall of the adapter sleeve until the test data meets the requirements;
2.3.5 If the test data still does not meet the requirements, the extension cord or the tested line must be reground before testing;
2.3.6 Interchange the connection extension connector of the tested patch cord with the connector of the connected instrument, and test the data at the other end;
2.4 Return loss test
2.4.1 Connect one end of the tested cable to the extension cable through a matching adapter, and connect the other end to the instrument access port (OPM Input);
2.4.2 Wrap the tested optic patch cord connected to the extension cable with a round rod with a diameter of about φ7 for about 5 times, the "ΔP" value of the CHA' channel of the instrument display is the return loss under test (it needs to be within the required range);
2.4.3 If the test data does not meet the requirements, repeat the contents of 3.4-3.6;
2.4.4 When testing the return loss of G657 optical fiber, matching liquid or matching paste is required.
