Aerial fiber optic closures requirement of Nokia Poland

1.1     General requirements

Fibre optic closures must be suitable for aerial installations in the Nokia network. Fibre optic closures must be able to connect loose tube fiber optic cables with G652 / G657 fiber optic fibres with an appropriate bending radius.

1.2     Application table

The following table in Table 1.1 shows the minimum requirements for closure configurations in the different application variants.

1.3 Total closure capacity

The closure must be able to do so:

  • making of 48/72/96/144 fiber optic splices,
  • Installation up to 2 optical splitters (1:8 or 1:4) in a mini metal box enclosure,
  • Minimum 18 SC/APC adapters installed.

1.4     Construction

The closures should be of multiple access design. The design must be such that it is possible to integrate with the cable overlength frame. The closure must be equipped with a minimum:

  • 2 round ports for cable entry with diameters from 8 mm to 15 mm, mechanically or thermally sealed,
  • 1 oval (double) port for cable entry with diameters from 5 mm to 15 mm without cutting through cable tubes, mechanically or thermally sealed,
  • 8 round ports to accommodate cables with diameters from 5 mm to 8 mm mechanically sealed.

The closure must have a fixture for the cable strength element, which prevents the cable from being pulled out.

1.5     Basic closure equipment

Each closure should be equipped with:

  • splice trays for a minimum of 72 splices,
  • space for a minimum of 2 splitters in a mini-metal-box enclosure (1:4, 1:8),
  • cable port seals,
  • Cable ties,
  • bracket for fixing the cable strength element,
  • the necessary screws and mounting tapes,
  • The closure mounting bracket for mounting the closure on the wall and pole.

1.6     Closure additional accessories

Each closure should be expandable with the following elements:

  • additional splicing trays enabling the expansion of the closure to 144 splices or a bracket for assembly of at least 18 patching ports,
  • splice protectors (H/S),
  • Cable overlength frame with mounting bracket integrated in the closure for mounting on a pole,
  • SC/APC adapters.

1.7    Temperature range

  • Installation: from -10oC to +60oC
  • Transport and storage: from -40oC to +70oC
  • Operation: -30oC to +70oC

1.8     Functional requirements

The following table Tab. 1.2  shows the functional requirements for the 1FCP aerial fiber closure.

1.9     Test

The manufacturer will provide Nokia with references to standards. The tests listed below are Nokia's minimum requirements.

1.9.1 General test

No chemical reaction, even in the long term, between all components and the material used in the production of the closure: plastics, metal, covers, filling, glue, fiber optic cables, PEHD, etc. The material used must not pose a risk to health or safety. A safety certificate must be presented. The closure should be UV-resistant according to the defined black carbon index. The closure cover must be resistant to solvents.

1.9.1.1    Quality control - inspection and measurement

Measurements will be carried out using standard methods. The supplier will provide Nokia with references to standards. This section contains criteria for the visual and mechanical inspection of fiber optic fragments, connectors and passive components. The control method may be used at any stage of the qualification or quality assurance process, as a self-test, or as a test required by the corresponding specification. The closure must not bear any visual signs of damage. The marking shall be legible and in accordance with the relevant specification. Dimensions must be in accordance with the documentation.

1.9.1.2    Dimensions

Dimensions must comply with the specification.

1.9.1.3    Sealing

1.9.1.5    Environmental and transport conditions

1.9.1.6    Mechanics

1.9.1.7    Immersion in water and temperature fluctuations

The audit will be carried out using standard methods. The manufacturer will provide Nokia with references to standards.

1.9.1.8    Temperature changes

1.9.1.9    Vibration (sinusoidal)

The audit will be carried out using standard methods. The manufacturer will provide Nokia with references to standards.

1.9.1.10 Optical fibre/cable retention

1.9.1.11 Twisting the fiber optic cable

1.9.1.12 Flexibility before pulling out
